TradingView free trial, refunds and cancelling: how UK and UAE users avoid a surprise annual charge

"At the end of my trial period, TradingView charged me for a full-year subscription." That line was posted on Trustpilot by a reviewer called Dan H on 16 June 2026. His next sentence was shorter: "the charge would not be refunded."
He is not alone. A reviewer in Singapore wrote a week later that TradingView "informed me that the time period was over and no refund would be given." Many of TradingView's recent Trustpilot complaints are about billing, not charts.
Quick answer: TradingView bills on a recurring basis, and an email asking to cancel does not count as cancelling. Annual plans can be refunded only if you ask within 14 calendar days of payment, and monthly plans within 7. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, you must cancel the renewal in that store, not on TradingView. Since 5 October 2026 the plan cards no longer offer a free trial, so check what you are agreeing to before you press "Start now". UK users pay 20% VAT on top of the dollar price and UAE users 5%.
Systemly publishes this comparison. We have tried to be fair, and every competitor fact below is sourced and dated 13 October 2026.
First, some balance
TradingView is a charting and social platform, and most people who use it like it. The app is rated 4.8 on the UK App Store from about 50,000 ratings and 4.6 on Google Play from about 954,000 reviews. Even critics praise the product: one Trustpilot reviewer wrote, "The platform for charting itself is excellent."
Trustpilot is a different picture. The page shows no TrustScore, citing a guideline breach and the removal of "a number of fake reviews". It lists 1,351 reviews, 285 of them in the past 12 months, and 62% are one-star. Those reviews lean heavily towards billing and support. That is the useful signal: the product is well liked, and the billing is where people get hurt. This guide is about the billing.
What changed on 5 October 2026
On 5 October 2026 TradingView removed the free-trial offer and the "skip trial and pay now" option from its plan cards, according to PricingSaaS. The buttons now say "Start now". The compare table further down the page still shows "Try free" buttons.
Before the change, trials ran for 30 days on Essential, Plus and Premium and 14 days on Ultimate, according to StockBrokers.com and Supa.
The practical point is simple. A button that says "Start now" may start a paid subscription today, and a button that says "Try free" may start a trial that turns into one later. Read the checkout page before you enter card details, and note the plan, the billing period and the date of the first charge.
How TradingView billing works
Four lines from TradingView's terms explain most complaints:
- "All billing is recurring".
- "An email request or support ticket asking for your subscription to be cancelled is not considered cancellation."
- "Rates offered in mobile stores and on the web-based platform might differ."
- TradingView "may, without prior notice, immediately terminate, limit your access to or suspend your TradingView account."
One affiliate site, Supa, reports that annual billing is pre-selected when you sign up for a trial, so a forgotten trial can trigger a full-year charge. We could not confirm this from TradingView's own pages, so treat it as reported, and check the billing period on your own checkout screen.
The common mistake is to assume that telling a company you want to leave is the same as leaving. The consequence, under these terms, is that the subscription renews anyway. Think of it like a gym membership. Telling the receptionist you are quitting does not stop the direct debit; filling in the cancellation form does. Learning apps draw the same complaint, as our look at Duolingo-style trading apps found.
The refund windows
- Annual plan: TradingView's rule: Refund "if requested within 14 calendar days after the payment is made"
- Monthly plan: TradingView's rule: Refund "only if requested within 7 calendar days after the payment is made"
- Monthly market data subscription: TradingView's rule: "non-refundable"
- You have filed a chargeback: TradingView's rule: Not eligible for a refund
- Subscribed through App Store or Google Play: TradingView's rule: Cancel the renewal in the store; TradingView says "it is possible only to cancel their auto-renewal"

A worked example: the trial that becomes a $431 charge
Here is how a forgotten trial plays out, using the pre-October trial length and current prices. Assume a Plus trial started on 1 September 2026, billed annually.
- The 30-day trial ends around 1 October 2026.
- The annual Plus price is $29.95 × 12 = $359.40.
- In the UK, TradingView adds 20% VAT: $359.40 × 1.20 = $431.28. At an assumed illustrative rate of $1.34 to the pound, that is about £322.
- In the UAE, it adds 5% VAT: $359.40 × 1.05 = $377.37. At the official peg of AED 3.6725 to the US dollar, that is about AED 1,386.
- The refund window is 14 calendar days after the payment, which takes you to around 15 October 2026.
If the same trial had defaulted to monthly billing, the charge would be $34.95 plus VAT: $41.94 in the UK ($34.95 × 1.20) or $36.70 in the UAE ($34.95 × 1.05, which is $36.6975 rounded). The refund window would be 7 calendar days, so around 8 October.
One more point for readers in Dubai. We could not find which time zone TradingView uses to count its calendar days. Dubai is four hours ahead of the UK in winter and three hours ahead in summer, and it never changes its clocks. Do not leave a refund request to the evening of the last day in either country. Send it with days to spare.
TradingView collects VAT from UK users (since 24 May 2023) and UAE users (since 14 March 2023), according to its tax help page. It says, "We have no manual facility to exclude or adjust the tax rates". Prices are shown in dollars, and your card issuer converts the charge at its own rate.
How to cancel, depending on where you subscribed
Where you paid decides where you cancel. If you are not sure, check your card statement: an Apple or Google charge means the subscription sits with that store.
Subscribed on the TradingView website
Use the cancellation option in your TradingView account's subscription settings. Do not rely on an email or a support ticket, because the terms say neither counts. Take a screenshot of the confirmation for your records.
Subscribed through the Apple App Store
TradingView says app-store subscriptions must be cancelled in the store. Apple's support page gives the route on an iPhone: open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose the subscription and tap Cancel Subscription. Apple advises cancelling a trial "at least 24 hours before the trial ends". It adds: "If there is no Cancel button or you see an expiry message in red text, the subscription has already been cancelled."
One Dutch reviewer wrote on Trustpilot, "I was unable to cancel it via my phone." If you subscribed through the App Store, the cancel option lives in the phone's own settings rather than inside the TradingView app.
Subscribed through Google Play
Open your subscriptions page on Google Play, select TradingView and choose Cancel subscription. Google's help page is blunt about one trap: "When you uninstall the app, your subscription won't cancel."
If you have already been charged
Act quickly and in writing.
- Check the date of the payment on your statement. Count 14 calendar days for annual or 7 for monthly.
- If you are inside the window, request a refund through TradingView support and keep a copy.
- Cancel the renewal at the same time, in the right place, so the next payment does not happen.
- If you are outside the window, TradingView's terms do not promise a refund. You can still ask.
- Know the consequence of a chargeback before you file one. TradingView's terms say users who have filed a chargeback are not eligible for a refund, and the terms allow it to suspend or terminate accounts without notice.
None of this is legal advice. UK and UAE consumer rights may also apply in your case.
A checklist before you start any trial
- Read the button. "Start now" and "Try free" may mean different things.
- Check the billing period on the checkout page before you pay.
- Write down the trial end date and the date of the first charge.
- Set a reminder 48 hours before the trial ends, in your own time zone, whether that is London or Dubai.
- Decide in advance which wall would make you pay. Our guide to TradingView free vs paid lists them.
- Cancel in the same place you subscribed: website, App Store or Google Play.
- Keep screenshots of the cancellation confirmation.
Where TradingView is the better choice
It is fair to say what TradingView gets right on billing. Its refund rules are published, short and clear, and they cover both annual and monthly plans. Annual billing saves real money if you stay: $60 a year on Plus, $24 on Essential and $120 on Premium, according to TradingView's pricing page. The free Basic plan has no time limit at all. For a trader who uses the platform daily, an annual plan with a diary note for the renewal date is good value. Cost per use is the honest test, the same one we apply to courses in forex course cost per lesson. The hard part is not the product. It is remembering the dates.
What Systemly does
Systemly (systemly.ai) is a UK-built forex and gold trade-planning app that turns live price data into a complete trade plan, with entry, stop, targets, position size and plain-English reasoning, and teaches the terms in a built-in academy of 32 courses. It is not a replacement for a charting platform, and it is built to work alongside TradingView: on Starter and above, a plan can be exported to TradingView as a Pine Script.
On the subject of this article, two facts only. Systemly has a free plan. Its paid plans, Starter, Plus and Pro, each come with a 3-day free trial. The same habits apply to any trial, including ours: note the end date, and decide before it ends.
If the reason you want a paid chart is that the free one never tells you what to do, compare the two jobs first in our TradingView vs Systemly hub.
How we compared
We read TradingView's terms, tax help and cancellation help pages on 13 October 2026, along with PricingSaaS's record of the 5 October plan-card change and Apple's and Google's own cancellation guides. Trial lengths come from StockBrokers.com and Supa; the pre-selected annual billing claim comes from Supa alone and is labelled as reported. Quotes come from Trustpilot reviews dated in 2026 and are balanced against app-store ratings. VAT uses 20% for the UK and 5% for the UAE, and currency conversions use an assumed illustrative rate of $1.34 to the pound and the official peg of AED 3.6725 to the US dollar.
FAQ
Does TradingView still offer a free trial?
On 5 October 2026 TradingView removed the free-trial offer from its plan cards, and the buttons now say "Start now". The compare table on the same page still shows "Try free" buttons. Before the change, trials lasted 30 days on Essential, Plus and Premium and 14 days on Ultimate. Read the checkout page to see whether you are starting a trial or paying today.
How do I cancel my TradingView subscription?
Cancel in the place you subscribed. On the website, use the cancellation option in your account's subscription settings, because TradingView says an email or support ticket does not count. For App Store subscriptions, cancel in your iPhone's Settings under Subscriptions. For Google Play, cancel on your Play subscriptions page; uninstalling the app does not cancel it.
Can I get a refund from TradingView?
TradingView's terms allow a refund on an annual plan if you ask within 14 calendar days of the payment, and on a monthly plan within 7 calendar days. Monthly market data subscriptions are non-refundable. Users who have filed a chargeback are not eligible. Outside those windows, the terms do not promise a refund.
Why did TradingView charge me for a full year?
The most likely reason is that the subscription was set to annual billing and renewed or converted from a trial. One affiliate site reports that annual billing is pre-selected at trial sign-up, which TradingView's own pages do not confirm. If the charge is recent, you may be inside the 14-day refund window for annual plans.
Does TradingView charge VAT in the UK and UAE?
Yes. TradingView has collected VAT from UK users since 24 May 2023 and from UAE users since 14 March 2023. The rate is 20% in the UK and 5% in the UAE, added to the dollar price. For example, Plus billed annually is $359.40 before tax, $431.28 in the UK and $377.37 in the UAE.
Does deleting the TradingView app cancel my subscription?
No. Google says that uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription, and Apple subscriptions are managed in Settings, not inside the app. If you subscribed on the TradingView website, deleting the app changes nothing. Cancel the renewal where you subscribed and keep the confirmation.
Does Systemly have a free trial?
Systemly has a free plan with no trial needed. Its paid plans, Starter, Plus and Pro, each come with a 3-day free trial. Systemly is a trade-planning tool for forex and gold rather than a charting platform, and it is built to work alongside TradingView.
